The object is a Remington-Rand typewriter. It is believed to be a Model 17 which debuted in 1939 and was renamed the KMC (for Keyboard Margin Control) in 1947.
Most of the typewriter's exterior is a black matte, but it has several silver-colored metal components. The bottom of the typewriter is stamped DOEHLER 2-41024. Pulling off the back cover, one can find the following number etched into the back of the inner component: MH0670100FM0017.
Note used with object during 2012 exhibit in Luverne, MN: "Manfred wrote everything out long-hand before typing it."
